Make Music!

I am adding to my studio everyday, so keep an eye out for big changes moving forward

Preamps

The two most important tools needed for recording are a good microphone and good preamps.  Well I have both here.  At this moment we have eight Neve 1073s, the classic most revered preamp, four Universal Audio Tube blending 710ds, great for drums and guitar, two Focusrite ISAs, great for DIs on guitar, bass or keyboards and one Empirical Labs Mike-e EL9 with the Distressor built in and a Manley Core Reference Channel Strip.  This leaves a lot to choose from, but if you are coming to record vocals, the Manley Core Reference Channel Strip and EL9 will give you a little bit of everything you need.  We do have the Empirical Labs  Lil FreEQ, the one used on many of the Harry Styles recordings, which combined with any of the listed preamps is just heavenly.

Microphones

I am constantly adding new microphones, but I will go over a few of the flagships.  I have a Soyuz 017 Fet Large-diaphragm microphone, used by Coldplay, and the Golden Age Premier hand wired GA47.  This is an amazing tube microphone that gives that timeless feel.  I find that most vocalists fall in love with one of these microphones right away, but there are plenty of other microphones like a stereo pair of AKG C414 XLII.  These are two amazing microphones that can record vocals, instruments and might be some of the best overheads of all time.  There is a Royer R-121 and sm57 for guitar recording, and plenty of dynamic microphones to choose from plus some pretty cool kick drum mics as well.  I got it covered.

Outboard gear

Another place I am adding to all the time.  Right now I have the Empirical Labs Lil FreQ, which is just great on vocals.  It has a built in deesser that is simple and easy to use.  I have two stereo paired British version Distressors, which are the most coveted compressors for recording rap vocals and sound amazing on guitars and can be used on a mix bus as well.  There is a Successor stereo bus Compressor that can be used on guitars, a drum bus, a miz bus, mastering or even on a keyboard.  The filter is incredible.  There is an SSL Fusion which helps glue all those digital elements in a mix to those that are pure analogue.  This is what makes recording vocals and mixing here so great.  There are enough resources to bring everything together

Digital Resources

The studio has the very best of digital gear.  The Universal Audio Complete plugin catalogue plus the complete Waves catalogue, the SSL and Slate Suites and the Complete Native Instruments catalogue plus Fabfilter, Soundtoys, Izotope, Ik Multimedia suite and the Roland Cloud.  There is more in the box that one could spend months working through this.  The studio is equipped with multiple DAWs including Logic Pro X, Protools, Luna and Ableton and Maschine as well.

Keyboards/Synths

I might be a guitar player, but I know the value of a great synth.  I pride myself on having one of the better synth and keyboard collections out there.  Let me start with the Roland Fantom 8x.  This is everything that Roland has to offer and it can be used as an interface and controller.  Basically, a whole song can be recorded and written with this workstation and the analogue filter plus the built in Trs8 drum machine makes it a monster.  On top of that I have a Vox Continental Organ.  This is an awesome back to that Doors organ sound and has a bunch of other sounds to boot.  Now it just gets better, on top of those two, there is Moog subsequent 37, the bad ass bass monster that blows all other synths away.  If you need something a little different?  How about the Korg Opsix which brings to life that legendary FM synth sound from the eighties, and lastly there is a Moog Grandmother and Matriarch making for some patching and Eurorack capabilities.  These fly through an outboard matrix so a lot of patching can be done.

Lastly I have a Roli Seaboard 2.  Every keyboardist out there should try playing this and if you are producer or a songwriter who needs to add some layers, you may have found your next best friend.  Used by Finneas on many of Billie Eilish's most famed productions.

Guitar and Bass

There is an extensive collection of both bass and guitar pedals plus an endless supply of digital resources.  I have a Fender 68 Custom Deluxe Reverb, a Marshall DSL 40 and a Roland Jazz chorus combo amp.  With these three and all the guitar pedals, there is an endless sounds to explore.  There are plenty of off the beaten path pedals too, some rare and fun for those songwriters looking for a new vibe.   There is one bass amp, an Ampeg micro, which is perfect, especially for recording and with a DI signal as well.  There is a Neve DI box.

Eurorack

The in studio Eurorack is a complete Moog box including two DFAMS, one Labyrinth, one Mother-32, one Subharmoniconand one Spectravox.  This setup plus the Moog Grandmother and Matriarch makes for an awesome day in the studio.  Out of this world textures or just some straight analogue drum beats, get granular with your production.

Percussion and Drums

There is a mapex drum set plus a Roland TK17 with a large Superior Drummer library.  So if you need to cut some drums or you want to work out a drum part on an electronic drumset then get in and move things around, I got you covered.  There is also a 909, a TRS6 and the Maschine drumpad.  There are plenty of ways to find what you are looking for.

Out of the Box

Fun stuff to try, there is a Thremini here to create some buzzing textures, a violin, an electric harp and a bass ukulele, so when things get slow or you just need to mess around, try it.
